Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act

Save Handmade Toys

Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act is set to go into effect February 10th, 2009. While this act was written with good intentions, it is going to destroy many small businesses that make lovely items for our children. This includes all the fabulous handmade toys, unique accessories and jewelry, and carefully handcrafted clothing that many of us have grown to love.

Please take a few minutes to educate yourself and become aware of the changes that can prevent this. Just think of the effect this will have on our economy when thousands of talented people can no longer use their skills and creativity to provide for themselves and their families.

Go here (Now please!) for more information and to see what you can do to help. This is another good resource. You can keep things simple and use this form from the Handmade Toy Allegiance to send an email to your Congressmen and Senators - It literally only took me minutes to contact the representatives within my state. Take a couple more minutes and vote for amending the law here.

Thank-you!

Holly - Thank you for sharing the info with your readers. I have only learned how this act affects my business in the last week. If the act continues as it currently stands, it will be illegal for me to continue selling my items on February 10th and the cost involved to produce after that are more than I can handle so my business will be shut down. Most of the vendors featured here will be in the same situation. We all have to do something about this. We all want safe items for our children, but this act as written will have the opposite effect.

Thank you!
