Ticket Jars

We've been working hard at using positive reinforcement in our house as of late, and randomly rewarding good behavior has been very helpful. Small reinforcements that lead to a "special treat" are working best because we can see the sense of pride when something is earned and it means my kids are looking forward to and striving for something. We are still experimenting with the most effective system for us, and I think we might borrow this ticker jar idea next:

My friend likes to take notice of helpful and kind things her daughters do by giving them a ticket that the girls place in their ticket jars. They earn 5 tickets a week, and the tickets are traded in for a movie night with a new rental and blankets spread on the floor. Two tickets get you into the movie and the other three can be traded in for popcorn, drink, and a treat.

This is just a starting point! There are lots of ways to make this idea your own. Feel free to share anything that works for you.

*You can find cans in the paint department of hardware stores, then have fun decorating as you see fit! Tickets can be purchased at party stores and can be reused after they are turned in.

Thanks Melissa!

This is great! We needed a new idea that doesn't involve constantly buying things.

Great idea! I might have to do this. We did a marble jar for a little bit, but I like the idea of "cashing in" tickets instead of waiting for the marble jar to be full! Thanks!

Love this idea! You could also use a regular can (emptied and cleaned). That would save a trip to the hardware store!
